Born and raised in New York City to Japanese immigrants, Kengo Kato grew up in his parents’ three restaurants, learning the importance of hospitality and hard work from an early age. His culinary journey took him through some of the most renowned kitchens, including the world-famous Masa. After that, he set out to fine-tune his art across the U.S., simultaneously helping others perfect their restaurants.
When Kengo arrived in Toledo, he quickly became known for his creative culinary approach, which eventually led to his opening his own establishments. As Chef/Owner, he has played a pivotal role in the Warehouse District’s revival, creating jobs and keeping dollars local. His curated Omakase, crafted with precision and intention, has drawn diners from far and wide, redefining how Japanese cuisine is experienced in the Midwest. This intimate and meticulously designed offering leaves a lasting impression, making it a destination for those seeking something special.
Kengo’s commitment to his craft is unmatched, with three restaurants and a fourth newly opened. He takes pride in pushing boundaries while honoring tradition, proving that excellence is found in the details. More than a chef, he is a mentor, a leader, and a proud Toledoan—building a remarkable team alongside his wife and two children in a city they love to call home.
